What generation and storage projects need from their supply
Grid connection sets the specification. Step-up and collector transformers have to satisfy the network service provider on impedance, tapping range, vector group and protection before anything is ordered, and those requirements are rarely identical between projects.
Inverter-driven plant is electrically noisy. Harmonic content from inverters and rectifier loads shortens the life of equipment specified against a clean sinusoidal assumption, so the design has to account for the duty the unit will actually see.
Then there is the program. Financial close, construction and energisation dates are contracted and penalised, and a transformer on a ship is a risk you cannot expedite. Manufacturing in Australia and New Zealand puts the schedule inside a conversation rather than a shipping manifest.
