Overview
Defence sites are specified to their own manual, procured through their own process, and increasingly required to be supplied from sovereign capability. Tyree manufactures defence substations in Australia to the ADF Manual of Infrastructure Electrical Engineering.
What defence infrastructure needs from its supply
The standard is MIEE. The ADF Manual of Infrastructure Electrical Engineering governs the design, and it sits alongside AS62271.202, AS3000 and power system requirements rather than replacing them. Equipment meeting AS/NZS alone does not meet the specification.
Segregation and control are designed in. Full segregation for operations and maintenance, DESN cubicles with or without PCMS, and protection and control customisation in accordance with MIEE and AS3000 are inputs from the outset, not additions.
Then there is sovereignty. Supply chain origin is a procurement consideration in its own right, and a manufacturer with Australian facilities, Australian steel fabrication and six months of raw material buffer presents a different risk profile to an importer.
