Production Manager (New Zealand) – Full Time Position

Tyree NZ Limited is a member of the Tyree Group of companies founded in 1946 by Sir William Tyree. The Tyree Group businesses operate solely for charitable purposes with up to 50% of our profits distributed for charitable purposes within New Zealand Australia through the Sir William Tyree Foundation and directly from our businesses. Tyree operates in New Zealand under the brand names Tycab Cables, Tyree Cables and Tyree Transformers. We distribute our specialised cable products and transformers manufactured in our Australian factories within New Zealand.

Due to the continued growth of our businesses in New Zealand and Australia, added with increasing demand resulting from New Zealand’s energy transition to net zero, the Tyree Group has committed significant capital investment into expanding cable operations and the establishment of local transformer manufacturing in Auckland. Our new facility located in the Auckland airport precent in Mangere will commence operations progressively from October 2023.

To support this investment and the introduction of transformer manufacturing Tyree NZ is seeking to employ dynamic and self-motivated person to lead our transformer manufacturing facility.

Working closely with the CEO of Tyree NZ, the role will be both demanding and exciting as you will be fulfilling the following key duties in a fast growing business;

  • Lead a production team of up to 45 employees across two shifts in a five day per week operation
  • Champion safety and quality within the Production Team
  • Ensure Tyree’s policies, procedures and IQES management systems are implemented within the Production Team
  • Schedule production to align with Sales orders from customers
  • Drive operational excellence in quality, on time performance and operational efficiency
  • Produce production forecasts on a rolling basis
  • Work collaboratively with Tyree’s engineering team to achieve high quality and minimise rework
  • Work closely with the finance, admin, procurement, sales and warehouse teams to achieve the businesses overall objectives
  • Other production and management related tasks as and if required


The ideal candidate will possess the following essential skills and attribute, critical for success in this position

  • Previous experience leading teams in a dynamic manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience in reading and understanding production scheduling and management within ERP/MRP software systems or similar production management software tools
  • Excellent people management skills to build, train and optimise team performance
  • The ability to communicate with a range of stake holders to ensure the best overall operational outcomes

Desirable attributes that the ideal applicant will posses

  • Qualifications in frontline management
  • Previous experience working within and managing a team in high added value production operation
  • An applicable technical qualification in mechanical, electrical, or allied skill area
  • Working knowledge of Syspro ERP/MRP software system is preferred but not essential
  • Have their own transport and valid drivers license
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously to achieve set tasks in a timely and efficient manner 
  • Be able to work within a team environment as the organisational needs dictate from time to time

The successful applicant will ideally have good written, verbal communication and numerical skills.
