Tyree Group supporting Fiji’s new Children’s Heart Hospital

Tyree Transformers has recently donated a 750kVA kiosk substation to the Sri Sathya Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital in Suva Fiji valued at AU$75,000.

The Children’s Heart Hospital will provide free congenital heart surgery for the children of Fiji and the South Pacific. Each year on average 200 children in Fiji are born with congenital heart disease and over 2,500 children are born in the Pacific Island nations with congenital heart disease.

Sadly the large majority of these children will die due to the unavailability, inaccessibility or cost of surgery. Until the development of the hospital there was no Paediatric Cardiac services available in either Fiji or the other Pacific Island nations.

The Children’s Heart Hospital project is one of the largest projects ever undertaken by a non-government organisation (NGO) in the Fiji Islands and is being constructed utilising funding from the SAI Prema Foundation of Fiji, international volunteers and other donations.

In announcing the donation Tyree Group Managing Director and CEO Keian Barnard said “The Sri Sathya Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital is a very worthy cause and one which will make a real difference for the people of Fiji and the Pacific Island nations. Both myself and Tyree Group employees take real satisfaction from supporting a project which will literally save hundreds of lives each year. Fiji and the Pacific Island nations are key regions for our business operations and it is wonderful to be able to give back in a small way to the people of Fiji and the South Pacific ”.
