Tyree Transformers has several opportunities for production team members to continue and develop their career in the transformer electrical engineering industry.

Current Positions:

Tyree’s transformer business continues to grow. The distribution transformer factories manufacture pole mount, ground mount and kiosk transformers for power and industrial customers. Kiosk’s include integrated low voltage and medium voltage switchgear. Our power transformer factory produces substation and specialty transformers for electric utilities along with mining, industrial and infrastructure sectors. Sizes range from 3MVA to 50MVA with voltages of 33kV to 132kV as well as design and production of quality transformer solutions for our customers, we provide site installation services for these transformers and specialist overhaul and site services for our clients existing transformers.

Located at Mittagong in the attractive Southern Highlands of NSW with several fully serviced towns in the local area, our business comprising of two fully functional transformer factories, is just 45 minutes driving from either South West Sydney – or from coastal Wollongong.


 

Electrician – Panel Wiring

Controls, Cooling & Metering

Based in our power transformer factory, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Building control panels as as well as wiring to instruments & accessories.
  • Assisting with the testing process and field service.
  • Function testing & compliance testing of control systems.
  • Participate in electrical filling work during the tanking activities
  • Assist with the electrical maintenance
  • Perform site commissioning and site service support
This role will suit both, a recently qualified electrician eager to learn and develop their career or an experienced electrician seeking a role which offers work variety and the chance to be part of a dynamic team environment. Familiarity with controls for transformers would be ideal, alternatively this role would suit those with panel wiring and switchboard assembly experience. Electricians with experience in related electro-mechanical fields will also be considered as a basis for developing further skills in our industry.
The testing process in factory is also an opportunity for the candidate to utilize their fault finding skills or to learn this valuable skill sets in a controlled environment. The role also provides opportunity for the candidate to provide occasional support to our field service team. The electrical maintenance work requires a range of trouble shooting and routine maintenance on our production machinery.
You will demonstrate a strong quality focus and personal safety behaviors, along with commitment to production schedule targets. You will be able to interpret schematic diagrams and mechanical drawings whilst following written instructions and procedures.
Previous experience is desirable, but we will consider candidates who have relevant experience and are ready to commit to developing and applying these skills.

Electrical Fitter – Transformer Assembly

We have an opportunity for an electrical fitter to perform active part assembly and/or final assembly of our power transformers, including mechanical assembly of tanks and components along with operating drying and oil processing equipment, as well as assembling the cores and the coils and making cable and bus-bar connections.

You will have strong quality performance and safety behaviour’s, along with commitment to production schedule targets. You will be able to interpret electrical and/or mechanical drawings and follow established production and quality procedures.

Familiarity with production or servicing of power transformers will be an advantage, but experience in related electro-mechanical fields such as switchgear assembly or wiring and bus-work, or perhaps oil processing, or mechanical assembly of heavy machinery and components can also form a basis for developing your skills in our industry.

Previous experience is desirable, but we will consider candidates who have relevant experience and are ready to commit to developing and applying these skills.

Electrician/Fitter – Site Services

Operating based out of our Mittagong site, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Travelling to site (Predominantly NSW/East Coast, however short duration work in the West and abroad also on occassion) using new modern vehicles and equipment
  • Liaising with the customer, general public, network operators
  • Establishing safe work areas including organizing equipment to undertake works on new and existing transformers
  • Assembly, installation, testing and commissioning of new and overhauled transformers
  • Onsite maintenance of Transformers, On Load Tap changers, Switchgear and Protection Relays
  • Managing your time, maintaining documents to an ISO 9001 Quality system

These roles will best suit a former power utility, mining sector or industrial technician with a high regard for safety. Familiarity with electrical substations, transformers, switchgear assembly, protection testing or wiring and bus-work will be an advantage.
Alternatively experience in a related electro-mechanical field such as the production or servicing of power transformers, oil processing, mechanical assembly of heavy machinery and components would form a basis for developing further skills in our industry.
Given you will be working in small teams often in remote locations and among the general public, a personable yet responsible personality is a must. You will be representing the Tyree brand and have the safety of your team mates and the public in your hands.
A NSW drivers licence and Construction OHS white card are mandatory. Electrical license is desirable, along with all other high risk tickets (additional training will be provided for all successful applicants if required)

Transformer Coil Winder – Distribution Transformers

We are seeking production staff with a desire to learn the craft of coil winding, or who may already have coil winding experience. There are vacancies on day shift and afternoon shift.

This role will particularly suit candidates who have experience in a production environment, probably operating a production machine – and following written instructions or drawings for the different products and who are ready to commit to developing their skills further and applying these skills. You will enjoy striving to meet production targets while performing your new skills to consistent quality standards. The work involves operating a winding machine, selecting and trimming materials, soldering leads onto the winding’s, applying sheets of insulation paper on to the winding’s. There is some manual handling of mandrels and rolls or spools of raw materials but mostly this is done with the aid of hoists and trolleys and does not rely on the individual’s strength.

Transformer Coil Winder – Power Transformers

We are seeking coil winders, either with experience, or who are willing to be trained to produce coils/winding’s for power transformers. There are vacancies on day shift and afternoon shift.

If you already have training and experience winding coils within our size range, or larger, then we are interested to hear from you. However, while previous experience is desirable, we will consider candidates who have relevant experience and are ready to commit to developing further and applying these skills. The types of winding’s include Disc, Helical, Layer and Wound-on-Edge.

Quality and cleanliness of the coils during the winding and upon completion are very important. Skills that are used include bending/shaping conductors, applying and fixing insulation materials, applying insulation tapes and trimming insulation packers, brazing, assembling mandrels and insulation assemblies and craning these on and off the winding machine, following design and production instructions and drawings.

Transformer Assembler – Distribution Transformers

Transformer Assembler – Tanking & Final Assembly  

Fitter and Production Assembly Worker

We have an opportunity for an electrical or mechanical fitter to perform final assembly of our power transformers. We also have an opportunity for a production worker with good mechanical aptitude and desire to learn the required assembly skills to be a part of the final assembly team. Tasks include mechanical assembly of tanks, components, instruments, gaskets, valves, pipework; along with operating drying and oil processing equipment and overhead cranes.

You will have strong quality performance and safety behaviour’s, along with commitment to production schedule targets. You will be able to interpret mechanical drawings and follow established production and quality procedures.

Boilermakers & Welders & Metal Workers

Fabricating transformer tanks

We seek Boilermakers, welders and metal workers to join our fabrication team. We produce both large and small tanks for our own transformers. The larger range include fabricating plates, beams and pipe into customized transformer tanks and fittings, while the smaller range of tanks combine skilled welders and robotics. Our steel detailing process include CNC laser, CNC plasma and CNC press.
